SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – OpenAI is increasing the availability of ChatGPT for Free and Go users by making GPT-5.6 Luna the default model. The organization announced that unlimited text conversations will be accessible starting next week, with safeguards in place to prevent misuse. Additionally, free users will have access to a Think button for questions requiring more complex reasoning. However, restrictions on file uploads, image creation, and other functionalities will stay in effect. These updates were revealed on August 6 as part of a broader overhaul of ChatGPT’s features.

During the current rollout week, GPT-5.6 Luna will serve as the default for Free and Go accounts. The introduction of unlimited text chats and the Think button will follow in the subsequent week. The Think feature allows Luna more processing time for difficult questions before delivering a response. OpenAI emphasized that the unlimited text function remains protected by abuse prevention measures. This adjustment applies mainly to text-based interactions, meaning that separate restrictions will continue to govern tools requiring additional processing, such as image generation or file uploads.

This expansion coincides with ChatGPT serving a vast global user base across both daily and professional tasks. OpenAI stated that the platform is used by one billion people weekly for activities like searches, research, planning, and writing. The company launched the GPT-5.6 family in July, which includes Sol, Terra, and Luna. Among them, Luna is marketed as the fastest and most cost-effective. The recent update places Luna at the core of the standard experience for users on Free and Go plans.

Enhanced GPT-5.6 Sol for Paid Subscribers

Users subscribed to ChatGPT Plus and Pro will now experience an upgraded GPT-5.6 Sol for regular interactions. This version powers both quick replies and more in-depth reasoning. OpenAI explained that the update results in more targeted answers and minimizes unnecessary details when simpler responses suffice. Additionally, Plus and Pro members now have access to a reasoning slider across web, mobile, and desktop platforms. This control allows users to set the level of processing ChatGPT applies to questions, covering areas such as research, planning, writing, and coding.

OpenAI also reported enhancements in factual accuracy based on internal testing. The assessment included financial, medical, and legal prompts that required precise information. Responses with at least one factual error decreased by approximately 62% with GPT-5.6 Luna compared to GPT-5.5 Instant. For GPT-5.6 Sol, the reduction was around 68%. The company also noted that the updated Sol model provides more reliable handling of dates, numbers, sources, rules, and assumptions when these details influence an answer.

Access Expansion Comes with Safety and Tool Usage Restrictions

OpenAI stated that its latest models incorporate additional protections, especially for users under 18. The systems are designed to prevent romantic roleplay, age-restricted challenges, and claims that could replace real-world relationships. They also enforce boundaries related to sexual content, eating disorders, dangerous activities, restricted products, and graphic violence. The company mentioned that it has implemented new evaluations to monitor responses involving younger users. The unlimited text feature will still operate within the company’s safeguards against abuse once it becomes available to Free and Go accounts.

This update applies specifically to the main ChatGPT conversation experience. OpenAI clarified that the GPT-5.6 Sol versions used in ChatGPT Work and Codex are not changing with this release. Currently, paid subscribers can access the new Sol model and reasoning slider immediately. Meanwhile, Free and Go users will receive Luna as their default model this week, with unlimited text chats and the Think button following next week. Limitations on file uploads, images, and other tools will remain in place even after the unlimited messaging feature is introduced.

Chad Experiences Deadly Cholera Surge, 13 Lives Lost in N Djamena and Hadjer Lamis

    August 8, 2026

had Experiences Deadly Cholera Surge, 13 Lives Lost in N Djamena and Hadjer Lamis N’DJAMENA / RankWire.AI / – Chad’s health authorities have confirmed an urgent waterborne health crisis that has resulted in 13 deaths since late last month when official public statements were made. According to the latest surveillance data issued by the Chad Ministry of Public Health, epidemiological monitoring indicates that the cholera outbreak in Chad has caused 13 fatalities, with the total number of confirmed and suspected cases rising to 239 nationwide. The official data shows a case fatality rate of 5.4 percent across the country, significantly above international standards for emergency outbreak response. Public health laboratory technicians process clinical diagnostic samples during health crises. The epidemiological bulletin issued from N’Djamena reveals that the spread of this bacterial infection remains largely confined to two main administrative regions. Public health records confirm that the northern province of Hadjer Lamis and the capital city of N’Djamena account for most of the reported cases. During the first week of August alone, statistical analysis shows a sharp increase in urban fatalities, with 11 out of the 13 total deaths occurring within the capital city. While government declarations confirming the localized epidemic came on July 24, initial waterborne bacterial fatalities date back to June 13. As community transmission accelerates across urban neighborhoods, emergency medical teams, alongside partner humanitarian organizations, have vaccinated approximately 50,800 residents in high-risk areas.
