UK’s Solar Capacity Hits 22.8 GW Ahead of New Plug-in Regulations, Boosting Deployment Milestones

    August 3, 2026

UK solar capacity reaches 22.8 GW as plug-in rules prepare for an August launch. In June, the UK recorded its second-highest monthly installation count, with only March 2026 surpassing it at 28,782 systems. Over the 12 months ending in June, solar capacity expanded by 2.2 gigawatts, representing a 10.9% increase. The year 2025 saw a total of 269,000 installations, the highest annual figure to date, primarily on residential, commercial, and other building structures. Utility-scale projects continued to contribute to the nation’s overall solar power capacity, driving further growth in renewable energy production.
