CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – Apple has introduced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, showcasing significant upgrades in camera technology, performance, and battery life. The latest models boast a 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera with a variable aperture — a first for the iPhone. Powered by the new A20 Pro chip and equipped with an improved thermal system, both devices are available for preordering starting September 12, with official sales beginning September 18 across more than 65 countries and regions.

The camera system on the iPhone 18 Pro features four adjustable aperture options to enhance lighting and depth effects. The primary camera supports apertures of f/1.48, f/1.8, f/2.8, and f/4.0. It also incorporates 48-megapixel Ultra Wide and Telephoto lenses. Inside the Camera app, users now have new Pro controls to fine-tune settings like aperture, shutter speed, and white balance. Additionally, a histogram display is available during photo or video composition.

Apple has also introduced Reference Image, a voluntary feature aimed at verifying photo authenticity. When capturing a photo in Reference mode, signed sensor data is stored, creating a reference image that users can compare with edited versions in the Photos app. Support for image metadata and the SynthID standard is also being added; SynthID support will come via a software update later in 2026.

Enhanced camera controls now include variable aperture

The A20 Pro processor utilizes a 2-nanometer manufacturing process, integrating a six-core CPU and a seven-core GPU. It features a Dual 16-core Neural Engine with 32 cores for AI tasks. Apple claims the GPU offers performance boosts of up to 40% compared to the A19 Pro. A redesigned vapor chamber increases cooling efficiency and sustains high performance. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread via Apple’s N1 wireless chip.

Battery life also sees improvements throughout the iPhone 18 Pro series. Apple estimates eSIM-only variants can deliver up to 36 hours of video playback, with the Pro Max reaching as much as 45 hours under similar conditions. The iPhone 18 Pro can reach a 50% charge in approximately 15 minutes when using compatible wired chargers. The removal of the physical SIM tray in eSIM-only models frees up space for additional battery capacity, and these models will be available in several Middle Eastern markets.

Siri AI debuts alongside iOS 27

Preloaded with iOS 27, the new iPhones support Siri AI powered by Apple Intelligence. Siri AI enters beta testing on September 14 for compatible devices set to English. Support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish will follow in October. The software leverages personal data from messages, emails, and photos to process commands, and it can also respond to on-screen content. Apple Intelligence employs on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute for cloud-based tasks supported by the system.

Pricing for the iPhone 18 Pro begins at $1,199 in the US, while the Pro Max starts at $1,299. Both models offer storage options of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB. Color choices include burgundy, glacier, silver, and black. In the UAE, the starting price for the iPhone 18 Pro is AED 5,099. Preorders open on September 12, with sales commencing on September 18. An additional 20 countries and regions are expected to receive the devices on September 25.
