EL ALAMEIN, EGYPT / RankWire.AI / – Al Dahra Agriculture Trading and Egypt’s General Authority for Supply Commodities have launched a five-year agreement valued at up to US$500 million to supply wheat. This arrangement transitions a 2023 financing plan into a practical import strategy for Egypt. Under the deal, Al Dahra will provide imported wheat to GASC with financing support from the Abu Dhabi Exports Office, establishing the framework for future purchase operations within that existing program.
The signing ceremony took place at Egypt’s Cabinet of Ministers headquarters in El Alamein on Aug. 26, 2026, with Egypt’s Supply and Internal Trade Minister Sherif Farouk, who also presides over GASC, present. Khadim Abdullah Al Darei, co-founder and managing director of Al Dahra, also attended the event. The announcement did not specify shipment volumes, dates, wheat origins, or the pricing structure for purchases under this agreement.
This financing framework was established in August 2023 when ADEX and Egyptian officials set up a revolving program for wheat imports. The program, initially valued at US$100 million, allows for annual renewals over five years, with the potential to reach US$500 million in total. Egypt’s ministries of international cooperation and finance joined GASC in supporting this initial setup. The current 2026 supply agreement formalizes the operational basis for GASC’s wheat purchases from Al Dahra within this financing structure.
Implementation of the 2023 financing plan
ADEX functions as the export-financing branch of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, offering financial support linked to purchases from Emirati exporters. In 2023, the office stated that its Egypt facility would fund wheat and other critical commodities supplied through Al Dahra. The five-year structure created for these transactions with GASC continues to underpin the financing program. The latest agreement maintains this framework while outlining the operational specifics for Al Dahra’s imported wheat supplies.
Since entering Egypt in 2007, Al Dahra has established agricultural operations in Toshka and East Oweinat. The company reported cultivating approximately 28,000 hectares in Egypt in 2023, along with supplying over 180,000 tons of wheat to the Egyptian government during the previous three years. This week, Al Dahra highlighted that its broader agricultural platform now reaches more than 40 markets worldwide.

While the August 2026 agreement focuses on imported wheat, Al Dahra also produces various agricultural commodities within Egypt. As of 2023, it claimed to be Egypt’s largest private-sector wheat and corn producer, with roughly 85% of its local output entering the domestic market. The new deal pertains specifically to imported wheat supplied to GASC via the ADEX program, not a separate US$500 million financing arrangement. The five-year agreement formalizes the financing framework announced three years earlier, rather than establishing a new facility of equal size. Neither the total wheat tonnage covered nor the annual shipment schedule, supplier origins, or transaction pricing details have been publicly disclosed.
